Life as an expat is exciting, but it can be equally challenging. If this resonates with you, you're not the only one. As a psychologist and an expat myself, I support individuals navigating mental health difficulties while living abroad, or experiencing challenges in their relationships. I also facilitate support groups that help expats with lived experiences of mental health disorders and neurodiversity to connect and be a part of a community.

What can I expect?

You are the driver behind the steering wheel, and I am the navigator with a map sitting next to you.

Starting therapy can be daunting, especially if you don't know what to expect. Here is an example, of what our sessions might look like:

Using schema therapy approach, in the first couple of sessions, I will first ask you about your experiences and what motivated you to seek help now, and together we will establish our therapeutic goals. I will ask you about your story, the important people in your life, and your relationships. We will explore together the way you regulate emotions, and perhaps try some techniques that may be helpful for example when feeling overwhelmed. Depending on the situation or the topic you're seeking help with, we will then start to explore how certain patterns have emerged, and if they are beneficial for you. Using experiential techniques and the safety of our therapeutic relationship, we will then try to change those patterns that no-longer serve you. In couples therapy, this process oftentimes involves learning skills in communication, fair fighting, and conflict resolution. I highly value transparency in the therapeutic process, and I will guide you through each step of the way.

Testimonials

"In my experience, Rebeka really made each session feel like a safe space and I felt comfortable quite quickly from the start. I appreciated that she adapted her approach based on what works for me. After a few sessions she could point out patterns that I did not realise I had and together we figured out a way for me to deal with them. For example, I found the visualisation exercises she suggested really helpful."

"Rebeka is fantastic. She is very compassionate and able to understand different situational and cultural nuances quickly. This allows for the conversation and sessions to immediately flow without much explanation. Her cultural fluency and ability to switch tactics and adapt has greatly aided my ability to heal."

"I have been working with Rebeka for almost a year. Rebeka is the best psychotherapist I have worked with in the past eight years. She is very compassionate, and as a person not just in therapy sessions. She is very accommodating and flexible, and that relieves a lot of pressure. Especially if the person struggles with day to day structure and anxiety. Rebeka is a very informed psychotherapist, she is able to explain things to me in clear ways. She has a lot of patience and knowledge for her patients and she truly cares. I highly recommend Rebeka's therapy and expertise."
